The Games

AYM kicked off the year (pun intended) with the annual AYM Games. Five youth groups from the southern part of the diocese met in Upper Hutt to battle it out.

Thirteen teams played 30 games across two leagues – intermediate and secondary school – competing in games of football, netball and dodgeball.

The competivity (to quote Jesse Duckworth) was high, but so was the camaraderie.

“My kids loved it and are stuffed,” said Mark Bier of Silverstream. At the end of the day everyone enjoyed a sausage sizzle in the car park before heading home.

The winners were:

Intermediate League
Winners: Newtown 1
Fair play award: Naenae 1

College League
Winners: Tawa 1 & 3 tied
Fair play award: Hataitai-Kilbirnie 2

The Northern games are taking place this Friday in Palmerston North, 7-9pm. See our events page for more information.

The winning teams for the Southern and Northern games will go head-to-head at Easter Retreat to become the ultimate winners.
