Take Part in Mission Month this August

Anglican Missions has partnered with NZCMS to produce a study series featuring five video sermons to help churches join in with August Mission Month.

Anglican Missions Marketing and Communications Manager Kris Singh said the intention of the series was to create a resource that would help parishes think about the five Marks of Mission as the guiding principles as to why we do mission. The theme of "your mission field is closer than you think", encourages people not to compartmentalise mission work to what "others" do for them, but something we can do actively wherever we are.

“This means we're not necessarily directing people to support a project, but to look at their discipleship and faith journeys in a more personal way,” he says.

The five sermons can be used to work through the five marks under the headings of Tell, Teach, Tend, Transform and Treasure. Each talk includes a study sheet that can be used in a variety of ways, including bible studies, Sunday services and newsletters.

The goal is to increase the passion and spiritual depth of people as they explore these ideas. This is guided by the five Marks of Mission, which outline what "mission" means in an Anglican context

Kris said it was common to think about mission as being something that was overseas, and done by others, but this initiative was trying to demonstrate that your mission field can be local.

“This is about what can you do in your local community, local neighbourhood and local parish to do mission.”

The study sheets and videos can be downloaded here.
