Leadership Development Course: last chance to enrol

One of the amazing outcomes of lockdown in many of our church communities was the emergence and strengthening of lay leaders, who were able to offer skills particularly in small group discipleship, and helped their parishes thrive during this difficult season.

In order to support parishes to cement and grow this leadership, we are offering the opportunity for lay leaders to join a new Leadership Development Course, which has been developed by our Diocese in conjunction with St John’s College.

This course counts as 25 credits towards the NZ Diploma in Christian Studies. You can also complete the course by audit, meaning you don’t have to complete any assignments, but will not receive credits.

Enrolment closes by the end of Sunday, 12th July 2020.

Course content

The year-long (40 week) curriculum will consist of:

  • Scripture and discipleship: how we engage with and apply Scripture in our discipleship settings

  • Learning and applying leadership strategies to grow your own and others’ leadership

  • Learning and applying discipleship methodologies to strengthen, encourage and equip your own discipleship groups.

Timetable

The course will begin towards the end of July, and run for 40 weeks in 4 semesters until May/June 2021.

Across each week, you can expect one hour a week on Zoom, with every second week consisting of an additional hour which will incorporate small group discipleship. Content will largely be led by Bishop Justin, and you should anticipate 2-3 hours of reading time a week, as well as any time required to prepare assessments.

How to Enrol

We are encouraging applicants to talk to your parish or mission unit leader prior to enrolling, as our hope is that this course will be something that a parish can use across their leadership to equip and strengthen their faith community. This journey will work well when you are learning alongside those you already minister with.
