AYM House Prays Through the Night

The Kilbirnie-based AYM house took the night shifts for All Saints Hataitai-Kilbirnie's Thy Kingdom Come overnight prayer vigil.

“Praying together, at unusual times, was super awesome,” says Anglican Youth Movement’s Alex Growcott.

“We did the 1 am through to 7 am shifts and split it up into three groups and different groups of the flat took sections of it to make it easier.

“It was a super awesome time together as a house being able to pray together at very unusual times for us to be praying.”

The House used a variety of ways to pray.

“Some did the different prayer stations whilst others had quiet worship and did colouring. When we reflected on what God was saying to us during this time a lot of us had similar themes and even similar pictures.

“One of the main prayer highlights for me was when we started singing together during my slot,” says Alex.

Doing something new brought them closer to God.

“Praying through the night with candles in the room was a new experience for all of us and gave us this super spiritual moment and we left re-energised and feeling more connected with God.”

To wrap up the whole experience we started the morning before church with a pancake breakfast which was a nice treat. Some of the families who came over to help set up joined us for food as well.
