Anglican Youth Movement’s Easter Retreat Draws 300 Youth

Easter weekend saw an energetic gathering of 300 young people from the Wellington Diocese at El Rancho for Easter Retreat.

The event drew youth aged between 13 and 18 and immersed them in the Easter story through engaging sessions and vibrant worship.

AYM Co Coordinator, Rev. Andy Spence says feedback has been amazing.

"It was incredible to witness the enthusiasm and passion of these young people.

"The atmosphere was electric, especially during the praise and worship sessions where hearts were poured out in song," said Andy.

Throughout the weekend, six speakers from various parishes delivered impactful messages, ranging from the significance of Jesus' sacrifice to the hope found in trusting him during life's darkest moments.

Rev. Spanky Moore, from Nelson Diocese, spoke at the retreat – saying, "Resurrection means Jesus conquers the narratives of 'I am what I do,' 'I am what others think of me,' and 'I am what I possess.'"

More than half the audience responded and sought prayer for healing.

The retreat also featured an array of Olympic-style competitions, where youth represent different 'nations' based on regions of the Diocese. From Connect Four to Synchronized Swimming, the events fostered camaraderie and healthy competition.

Volunteers played a pivotal role in ensuring the success of the event, with organizers extending a heartfelt gratitude to their dedication and support.

"The contributions of our volunteers were invaluable, and we owe them a huge debt of thanks," says Andy.

Looking ahead, Anglican Youth Movement gears up for more events, including the Intermediate Camp in June and the High School Rise Up Camp in August, and promises more opportunities for youth engagement and spiritual growth.
