Seminar: Moral injury and spiritual care research
You are invited to a presentation by Dr. Lindsay Carey, La Trobe University.
Dr. Lindsay Carey, MAppSc, PhD, RAAFSR, is Head of the Public Health Major for the Bachelor of Health Science Program and Research Fellow in Palliative Care at La Trobe University, School of Psychology and Public Health. His teaching and research interests include public health and bioethics, palliative care, death and dying, religiosity and health, pastoral care, spirituality and the sacralization of identity process.
Moral injury has been described as the damage done to one’s conscience or moral compass when that person perpetuates, witnesses or fails to prevent acts that transgress their own moral and ethical values or codes of conduct. Moral injury can lead to serious distress, depression and suicidality. This seminar will provide an introduction to moral injury, clarify some of the issues regarding moral injury and consider the potential role of chaplains. The presentation will also consider some of the latest pastoral care research from around the world.
