UK evangelist Mike Pilavachi is joining our Ministry Conference Family Camp at Rātana to kick us off on Sunday 15th April, and everyone in the diocese is welcome. Mike will be leading a time of worship, ministry and teaching, and this time is open to anyone who wishes to attend, whether they are in a ministry role in your parish or not.

Please spread the word amongst our people, and encourage them to invite others along also. If you have had the privilege of hearing Mike speak at New Wine and other events, you will know that he is an engaging and motivating speaker, and both new and longer term Christians have experienced a Spirit-filled boost from Mike’s teaching.

    Venue information:

This event will be held at Rātana Pā as part of Ministry Leaders' Family Camp.  As you drive into Rātana village on Rātana Road, take the second right onto Tairawhiti Street, which then turns into Taihauauru Street.

At the corner of Taihauauru and Wharekauri Streets, you'll notice the marae atea (forecourt) - a grassed area used for welcoming manuhiri (guests). Just behind the marae atea is a large building, containing the wharenui (meeting house) where the event will be held.

After parking your vehicles, proceed up Wharekauri Street and use the concrete verandah to access the wharenui.

The Wellington City Mission’s iconic Brown Paper Bag Collection, now in its 11th year, is happening this July.  On Thursday 21 June, their special Brown Paper Bag and donation insert will be featured in the Dominion Post, giving people the opportunity to donate cash or food items to help those who are in need this winter.

Every day, many Wellingtonians in need receive food parcels through The Mission’s Foodbank service. This can be a huge relief to a struggling family, easing their financial burden and helping them focus on paying bills and other expenses. Many people who are burdened with social isolation or homelessness also come to the Drop-in Centre every day for daytime shelter, care, a place of belonging, and, of course, a hearty meal. In the last financial year, the Mission provided over 3,500 food parcels from the Foodbank and over 23,000 meal servings in the Drop-in Centre! Help them continue to offer these services by supporting this year’s Brown Paper Bag Collection.

This collection is something your youth group, women’s group, or your whole congregation can participate in – just simply choose if you would like to support by donating “The Money” or by filling “The Bag” with goods!

    If you choose “The Money”:

You will be supporting by raising funds. Every $4 raised provides one healthy, nourishing meal serving for a person in need. Some fundraising ideas include: hosting a Brown Paper Bag dinner event, a plate decorating competition that costs $4 to enter, a Brown Paper Bag Sunday, or a games night themed with “The Money or The Bag”.

    If you choose “The Bag”:

You will be supporting by collecting food items. Every bag filled with food supplements a struggling family’s groceries for one week. Some ways to collect the food items include: handing our special Brown Paper Bags out with your church newsletter, or setting up a Brown Paper Bag food collection box on a Sunday.

You can take part in this collection any time from now until the end of July. If you would like to get involved please look out for the insert in the Dominion Post on 21 June, or get in touch with Sarah Thomas from the Mission on 04 245 0843 or enquiries@wgtncitymission.org.nz. We can then arrange to give you any material or further information that you need. Thanks for your support and generosity!

As All Saints' Palmerston North continues its process of planning for the earthquake strengthening of their historic church, the vicar of the parish has initiated an event for the people of Palmerston North to learn more about the building's special character.

The Vicar, Rev Nigel Dixon, has invited a leading New Zealand and international authority, Archbishop Sir David Moxon, to speak at a public meeting. His title is “The Theology of Sacred Space”. There will be time for discussion and questions.

David grew up in Palmerston North and knows the building well, having been baptised there, sung in the choir and involved in leadership. He is the Patron of the project.

We invite you to join us for lunch and then hear David, on Wednesday 27 June from 12 noon, in the Community Centre behind the old church.

There is parking down the drive beside Square Edge and in the car park along the side of the Community Centre.

This is huge. New Zealand's getting our first actual plan for tackling climate change - the Zero Carbon Act - and right now we have an opportunity to have our say on what it should contain.

Come hear from Christians who have campaigned for this plan, and ask them any questions you have. We'll ponder, pray and invite Jesus to influence our opinions. Then we'll have our say - in ways so creative the officials who receive them won't know what hit them!

Victoria University's Religious Studies Programme invites us all to attend a public lecture by their St John's Visiting Scholar, Professor David Maxwell.

Prof. Maxwell is the Dixie Professor of Ecclesiastical History at the University of Cambridge.  His lecture promises to be an outstanding one. In an increasingly globalised world, the global character of Christianity has come into much sharper focus. Christianity is being reshaped in profound ways globally, and also right here in New Zealand. In this context, formations and formulations of World Christianity have become extraordinarily significant and the object of intense debate. David is a superb scholar and communicator. His lecture should be of wide interest, and will be especially valuable for students.

More information will be shared as it comes to hand.

9:30am - 12:30pmAll Saints Conference Centre, 90 Hamilton Road, Hataitai, Wellington

Dr Holly Catterton Allen is the co-author of Intergenerational Christian Formation - considered the leading book on intergenerational faith. It really is a huge honour to host her at All Saints Hataitai on the 21st July, so we would love to invite church leadership to come along.

One of the most common questions our Children and Families ministry leaders seem to be asked at the moment, is “how do we do the intergenerational thing,” and spending three hours with Holly will help provide some of those building blocks.  Mission unit leaders from all over the diocese are welcome, and are encouraged to bring other ministry leaders from within their parishes and mission units.  This is not just for children's ministry leaders, it's for everyone!  The cost is $20 per person.

You can download a PDF flier here, and you can link to the registration page here.  Also, here’s a link to a talk she did at an Intergenerate conference.

This visit is co-hosted by the Anglican Dioceses of New Zealand, along with the Baptist, Presbyterian, and Salvation Army Churches, and Scripture Union New Zealand.
