World Refugee Sunday and Resettling Refugees in Wellington

On World Refugee Sunday (4th July in the Anglican calendar) we celebrate the contribution refugees make to our world and our responsibility to always welcome the stranger.

Christian World Services have prepared some worship materials, including prayers, stories and Biblical reflections, we can use to draw attention to the needs and concerns of refugees.

As a Movement, we prioritise the Biblical call to the last, the lost and the least and we are passionate about making a difference for refugees. We are partnering with the Red Cross in Wellington to resettle former refugees and would love you to get involved. Come to the Cathedral on July 12th and 13th to help with the following:

Refugee Resettlement: Checking and Packaging Household Goods, 12-13 July
Refugee Resettlement: House Set-up Training, 13 July

The Red Cross also have a great collection of stories from former refugees who became ‘Essential Kiwi Legends’ during last year’s lockdown. You can read Najmo Mohamed’s story about how she moved to New Zealand and become a caregiver at the Elizabeth Knox Home and Hospital.
