Cooking Classes & Kai Kits

To the God who is able to do far more than all we ever hope or imagine.

St Philip’s Revive is a new church plant in Stokes Valley. We have recently had the opportunity to partner with Te Awa Kairangi Kai Collective and the Stokes Valley Food Bank to put on free cooking classes and Kai Kit making in the Stokes Valley hall on Wednesdays at 10am till 12pm.

It is a simple but wonderful ministry. People from the community come and make a meal each week which we then eat together for lunch. Children are welcome and turn up each week to help (and play with the toys). We also make up Kai Kits with the recipe and all the ingredients for people to take home and cook. Each is aimed to be nutritious and a meal for 4 for $5.

We make up way more kai kits than needed and these go to the Stokes Valley Foodbank next door.

This partnership was such a God thing. We had been wanting to have a drop in meal space in Scotts Court at Stokes Valley but the shop we were thinking of leasing fell through. Before we’d even had time to mourn this, Julia Milne from Te Awa Kairangi Kai rings up and asks to partner with us. I got off the phone and said to God, wow that’s even better than we were planning. After a quick meeting in the hall with both Julias, Sharyn from the Foodbank and Rochelle who’s running it and a very permission-giving Vestry we got started the next week.

It's been great cooking with people and getting to hear their stories. It’s on every week and we’ve now done three!
