General Synod 2022

General Synod was held in Nelson last week. This 120 delegate meeting is our Church's governing body which considers priorities and directions for the Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia over the next two years.

General Synod Te Hīnota Whānui opened with a Mihi Whakatau from mana whenua of Te Tau Ihu - the upper South Island, and the Pīhopatanga o Aotearoa.

Many of the motions and Bills passed at General Synod have important things to say for our Church's life now and in the future, and with that comes the fascinating stories behind them. The media team from Anglican Taonga will continue to update their website in the coming days with more news about the motions, along with coverage of this year's special Wānanga day looking into our Church's relationship with mātauranga Māori.
