Anglican Studies to host “taster” weekend on Whanganui River

The Wellington Anglican Studies programme will be hosting a taster weekend for those interested in the programme.  The taster involves attending the Anglican Studies weekend at Hiruhārama/Jerusalem on the Whanganui River from Friday 31 August to Sunday 2 September. Programme co-ordinator Rev Dr Joe McGarry says: “We warmly invite anyone interested in learning more about our community, and encourage anyone interested in deepening their faith by learning and growing together.”  He says it will be an exciting opportunity to experience what our diocesan Anglican Studies learning community is all about, and to do so whilst exploring the New Testament over a weekend.

Rev Dr Joe McGarry and Sonya Lewthwaite will be team-teaching a New Testament overview, The Bible Story – New Testament in a blended workshop/lecture format. They are both passionate and inspirational teachers, and keen to invite newcomers to explore discipleship in a new and engaging way: by using deeper biblical and theological engagement to develop our discipleship community. Together, our Anglican Studies students support and encourage one another in faith, journey together in Christ, and serve in our local parish settings.

Join the Anglican Studies community at the special and historic place of Hiruhārama/Jerusalem, as they gather as an Anglican family and discipleship community from parishes across the movement.  The cost for the taster weekend will be $50 per person, which includes two nights’ accommodation and weekend meals.  Existing Anglican Studies students attending from across the diocese will be available to assist people requiring transport to and from Hiruhārama/Jerusalem.
