Ordination Discernment Handover

Ordination Discernment Handover

After five and a half years and six cycles of ordination candidates, the Reverend Canon Simon Winn has this week stepped down as Director of Ordinands and handed over to the Reverend John Hughes.

John now takes over the coordination of our ordination discernment process for potential priests and vocational deacons in the Diocese of Wellington.

Simon said: “When Bishop Justin and Archdeacon Tony Gerritsen entrusted this 0.1 role to me in 2013 there was work to be done in revitalising the process and developing new criteria for candidates to match the vision and priorities of the diocese.”

“I had held a similar role alongside being a vicar in London Diocese, and was delighted to be asked to use my gifts here at a time of great change in our diocese.

“Accompanying women and men who are obediently exploring God’s call is a great privilege and responsibility and a sacred task, as they entrust themselves to the ‘process’.”

“My thanks to all who give their time as Bishop’s advisers, examining chaplains, mentors and to Judith Parkington, our administrative assistant who is so trustworthy and reliable in ensuring things run smoothly.  All the best to John and team for the next season.”

John can be contacted on either 027 499 4792 or 04 562 6076, or email vicar@stalbanschurch.nz.  In due course, John will have a Diocesan email address and this will be advertised once it has been set up.  Judith can be contacted at judith@wn.ang.org.nz.
