From Rev Jennie Sim, Diocesan Council
Our July meeting of Diocesan Council began with a rather challenging question this month, courtesy of Rev Sue Fordyce – “what is your greatest temptation at this point in time?” We are in the habit of beginning all our meetings with sharing what is happening in our lives and with our journeys with God, and this question really took that to a new level! It is good to remind ourselves that God is ready to be with us in all the challenges of life.
One of the joys we shared this month was the feedback from the recent team training day in Palmerston North. Over 300 people participated in the day, and we are so grateful for the hard work of the Palmerston North cluster in making it happen. There was a wonderful vibe, with lots of people enjoying the chance to learn and upskill, as well as the joy of being family together.
Council discussed how we continue to sharpen our diocesan and mission unit focus around managing finances and stewarding our properties in ways that best serve our mission and ministry. We remind mission units that the diocesan team are here to help and encourage units to make contact with Rob Moonlight to discuss any property matters. We’d like to remind people of the expectations on HSE reporting too, and encourage units to be in touch with Rob or Nick Young about any incidents. If you are unfamiliar with the requirements, please ask for a refresher.
Coming up are the pre-synod regional meetings, on 4th and 11th of August. Diocesan council would love to see all mission units well represented. Council members will be at all meetings to answer any questions you may have about our work for the diocese.
The next meeting of Diocesan Council is planned for 15 August 2018.
