The Reverend Dr John Roger Flenley RIP

The Reverend Dr John Roger Flenley passed away peacefully on Friday 22 June 2018 at 3.30am after a long illness.  He was aged 82 years.

John was deaconed in the Wellington Diocese in 2008 and was appointed Deacon Assistant in the Parish of All Saints, Palmerston North.  He was appointed Missioner for the Care of Creation in the parish, and in Mission Enabler with a Prime Focus on the Fifth Mission Statement of the Anglican Communion – The Care of Creation – to Strive, to Safeguard, Sustain and Nurture the Environment and the Physical World We Live In for the Diocese.  John was also a member of the Wellington Institute of Theology and Mission Council.

In 2012 John was the driver of a Synod motion that encouraged all parishes to plant 40 trees per parishioner over the following five years.  In 2016, John retired from active ministry and was granted a Permission to Minister licence by Bishop Justin, and remained involved in parish life.

John’s funeral service will be held at All Saints Church, Palmerston North at 1.30pm on Thursday 28 June.  Parking will be restrictive so if parking on the street, please obey all parking rules.  There will be reserved seating for clergy and clergy are requested to robe in alb and white stole.
