Reverend Tim Handley, Parish of Miramar-Seatoun-Strathmore

Reverend Tim Handley, Parish of Miramar-Seatoun-Strathmore

Bishop Justin has appointed the Reverend Tim Handley as Interim Priest in Charge in the Parish of Miramar-Seatoun-Strathmore from February 2018.

Tim is currently on a break from ministry pursuing other interests.  He was Vicar in the Parish of Pohangina from 2001 to 2008, before moving to a Permission to Officiate licence.  In 2013 Tim returned to the parish in the role of Community Priest, a position that he held until 2016.

Tim writes: our family consists of Kathryn, Chris (26), Hannah(24), Rebecca (22) and me.  As a family we have been involved in the Wellington Diocese for a long time.  Some of you will remember Chris, Hannah  and Rebecca from Getting Dirty for God and other AYM events.

Following my ordination in 1996, I served as a Priest Assistant in the Parish of All Saints, Palmerston North and then as Vicar in the Parish of Pohangina.  In 2008 I resigned from stipended ministry and continued on at Pohangina in various non stipendary roles.  In 2013 I was licensed as a Community Priest.

Since 2008, in an effort be self supporting, I have worked in various roles in engineering and manufacturing.  I also leased a 10 acre farm for 6 years and have worked as a school bus driver.

In January 2016 Kathryn and I resigned from our jobs and set out to walk from Cape Reinga to Bluff.  We had been inspired by some of the great walks in different parts of the world but felt that we should explore New Zealand first.  To date we have covered 2000 km and are enjoying the opportunity to meet a vast array of amazing people.

The opportunity to be involved with the Parish of Miramar-Seatoun-Strathmore is a great delight for us.  We are very much looking forward to moving there in February and becoming part of that community.
