The Reverend Russell Gaskin passed away peacefully in Wellington Hospital on Sunday 10 September 2017. Russell will be at the Te Rangimarie Marae, Cole Street, Masterton from 3.30pm today, Monday, until his service on Wednesday 13 September at 11.00am. Clergy are welcome to attend and robe in alb and white stole.

Russell was deaconed in 1988 and priested in 1989. He began his ministry in the Wellington Diocese as Deacon Assistant in the Parish of Levin from 1988, and then became Priest Assistant in the parish in 1989. He continued with this ministry until he was appointed Priest in Charge of the Society of St Francis in 1992. In 2003 Russell was appointed Priest in Charge in the Parish of Eketahuna, a position which he held until 2008. After a ministry reshuffle in the parish, he was appointed Priest Assistant responsible to the Rural Dean of the Wairarapa, and recently moved to a Permission to Officiate licence. Russell was also one of the Diocesan Exorcists, within the Company of the Team of Diocesan Exorcists.
