It’s not something we often think about. But statistics show that only 1 in 4 New Zealand churches have the permission needed to legally make reproductions of music.
Here’s how it works:
The first copy of music obtained from an original source (SongSelect, enhanced CD or an authorised website) is considered to be your original and any further reproductions, hard copy or digital, will require further permission.
The most convenient way to protect your church from this kind of copyright violation is the Music Reproduction Licence (MRL) offered by Christian Copyright Licensing International. This licence allows you to make multiple reproductions of music for musicians and singers.
You can find more information about the MRL on our website.
