Doing Our Bit on World Refugee Day

Doing Our Bit on World Refugee Day

The Doing Our Bit: Double the Quota campaign will be holding an event at Parliament on World Refugee Day (20th of June) and Bishop Justin will be speaking at the event.  The refugee crisis hasn’t gone away just because it has left the news.  Along with key MPs, former refugees and campaigners, Bishop Justin will highlight the plight of those caught up in the current crisis, and call MPs to double New Zealand’s annual intake of refugees to 1,500.  This is already the policy of the Labour Party, the Greens, United Future, the Opportunities Party.

We welcome all members of the Diocese who are in Wellington that day to attend the event at Parliament from noon, to show compassion and empathy for refugees and former refugees.  Together we want to send a message to MPs that while much of this election will focus on domestic issues, we must not ignore the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
