Assistance needed to welcome refugees to Wellington

On behalf of the new former refugees settled in New Zealand, we would like to thank you all for your generous donations of household items, pantry packages and welcome gifts.  A group of Diocese volunteers recently working over a Sunday afternoon and Monday and Wednesday were overwhelmed by the great generosity shown by the Diocese.

It is inspiring what we can do together when the call goes out. The call went out and the response was beyond our expectation. The love of God was ever present over the weekend.  We look forward to your continued support in a few months’ time when the next Refugee families arrive.

House Setup Teams

In June there will be another intake of refugees coming to Wellington.

For June we are asking for people to help set up the houses. If you have done this before you only need to turn up on Tuesday the 20th of June between 6.30pm and 7.30pm at the Loaves and Fishes behind St Paul’s cathedral Hill St.

If this is your first time, the Red Cross provides training and this is a prerequisite. The training is done at Connolly Hall at the Catholic Centre, just up the street from Wellington Cathedral of St Paul. Once that is done, volunteers go down to Loaves and Fishes to pick up your household goods which are then held until the setup of houses later that week.

Please contact Patricia Cooper, Diocesan Refugee Resettlement Co-ordinator, on or 027 477 3824, to register your interest for this worthy cause.

Checkers and Sorters

If anyone is available to do checking and sorting on Monday 19 June and Tuesday 20 June between 10am and 4pm at the Loaves and Fishes please contact Patricia at or 0274 773824 for registering or further information.
