Plans are underway for a pilgrimage to the Holy Land and beyond, from the 6th until the 27th of May 2018. The Very Reverend Mike Hawke, Dean of Nelson Cathedral, will lead the pilgrimage which has options for taking in some or all of the following:
- Jordan – walk the Petra Valley, then cross the Jordan river and stay in the old city of Jerusalem for four nights.
- Holy Land – Bethlehem, Nazareth and Galilee – where we can renew our baptism vows.
- Athens – the Areopagus, from a recent reading in Acts 17.
- The island of Patmos, where John was imprisoned, and wrote the Book of Revelation.
Mike says of one of last year’s pilgrims: “One of our pilgrims last year had never travelled outside of New Zealand. So concerned was she that her family would talk her out of it, she didn’t tell them till a few days before leaving! For her it was a lifetime highlight. She emails me occasionally with memories.”
