Diocese hosts first Messy Church retreat

Messy Church logoOver the weekend of the 24th to the 26th February, we hosted our first Messy Church retreat.  The retreat offered the opportunity for Messy Church leaders from across New Zealand to network, listen to God and do life together.  Attendees were joined by two people from Australia, which has begun to foster a Trans-Tasman relationship.

With the creative guidance of Fran Francis from Spiritual Growth Ministries New Zealand, the group explored The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of The Dawn Treader by C.S. Lewis, inviting them into a story that mirrors our Christian faith and relationships.  From teenagers to over 70 years old, attendees creatively shared reflections from the Dawn Treader and Psalm 18, making connections, gaining tools and memories for life as leaders.

About Messy Church

Messy Church helps people unfamiliar with church connect with God’s story of grace, love, forgiveness and healing. It offers an inter-generational approach through creativity, hospitality and celebration, all centred on Christ.  It is an international movement fast gaining traction in Wellington and across New Zealand, requiring a rhythm of work, rest and reflection.

These pictures tell some of the story from total engagement with the story, to creative reflection, light in the darkness, and sharing at the Lord’s table.
