Kia ora whanau,
As we enter together as Diocesan family into Lent this week we offer this Lenten prayer to share in all our gatherings, large or small – house groups, services, staff meetings, vestry meetings – any time we meet together.
Being part of the Anglican family we know that we share in the journey of Lent together. Having a shared prayer enhances our sense of belonging and one-ness in our Diocesan family.
We invite you to intentionally commit to using this prayer on every possible occasion and especially as an additional collect during times of intercessory prayer.
Sovereign Lord of this Diocese of Wellington, we worship you as Lord, supreme in our lives and in this world.
Thank you for the gift of life and love, and your transforming presence with us.
We pray that by your Spirit you would renew your church in love, that we might grow stronger in witness and demonstration of that love to one another as family and to our communities.
We are sorry and repent of our parochialism and exclusiveness. Break us open and set us free to love as you love.
Give us grace to lay down old hurts and build the trust we need to work together for the healing and flourishing of our communities.
Knit us together as one family; unify our vision; make us one, that you may be glorified in all our lives.
We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ, your son, our Lord. Amen.
Our hope and prayer is that during this Lent as a Diocesan family we will experience a renewed call to prayer.
This Lenten collect is a beginning and an invitation into that call to prayer in the Diocese, which we will continue to seek to nurture as the year unfolds. Following Lent and Easter we plan to call the whole Diocese to pray especially during the period from Ascension Sunday to Pentecost Sunday, for a fresh anointing on the Diocese by the Holy Spirit; the fire and source of all transforming love and hope. This will be part of our joining with Archbishop Welby’s Thy Kingdom Come global wave of prayer.
Thank you all for upholding our family in prayer this season. Please circulate this widely amongst your networks and encourage those who you lead to commit in prayer.
