Clothing Container for Vanuatu

Clothing Container for Vanuatu

Here is a flyer which asks parishioners and anybody else in your area who is willing to contribute new and good used clothing for people in Vanuatu: Clothing Vanuatu Final End

Last year’s Tropical Cyclone Pam in those Islands brought major destruction for crops, buildings and equipment.  This included destruction of nearly 80% of the country’s rainwater harvesting structures.  As a result communities were badly affected not only by the hurricane but also by the subsequent drought following the cyclone.

Following the cyclone, Christchurch Diocese was encouraged by Reverend Mike Hawke, Field officer for Anglican Mission Board, to fill a container of building materials and other equipment to assist in reconstruction.  Recently a request was received  from Bishop James Ligo of Vanuatu asking for new and good used clothing to be sent.  The hope and expectation is that we in the Wellington Diocese will be able to fill a container of new and good used clothing and send it to Vanuatu.

If you would be willing to put the above flyer up somewhere on your noticeboard and promote it in your Church Newsletter, we will be able to get the container filled.  As the flyer indicates we are looking for new or good used clothing mainly for children and youth.  New underclothing will also be gratefully received.

At the Wellington Diocesan Synod in Palmerston North in September we will be distributing jute bags which we would encourage your parish to fill.  If you have enough clothes for more than one bag that’s great – put them, if possible, in another jute bag or similar.

When your bag(s) are full please contact  Isaac  Henderson, Diocesan Mission Committee, or Reverend Rory Pilbrow to arrange collection.
