In 2013 Living Wage Wellington held a successful forum at St Peters’ Church where we challenged candidates in the Wellington City Council elections to commit to the Living Wage. We won the commitment of the majority of successful candidates and over the past three years hundreds of low paid workers at Wellington City Council have had their wages lifted as a result of this commitment.
But we’ve got a long way to go before every worker employed in the Wellington City Council workforce is paid the NZ Living wage rate.
In these local body elections, we are campaigning again in Wellington, and in Hutt City and Porirua. Please join us at your local Living Wage candidates’ event and bring others from your organisation, network, whanau and friends.
