Thank you to all those who made a contribution to the resettlement of Syrian refugees in Wellington. Twelve families arrived on Friday 17th June. Your contribution is deeply appreciated.
We have heard from Red Cross volunteers about how delighted they were with all the wonderful things that were in place to welcome refugees to our part of the world. In one house, they described the excitement of 5 girls discovering the house and to find their bedrooms and beds all set up. We have also heard from “house set-up” volunteers that it has been a privilege to set-up house for a new family and to imagine the goodness in the lives of the family who will be welcomed. Such encounters are precious.
Thank you to all the different groups who gathered household, pantry and children’s goods for the families. We really appreciated the work which was done gathering everything together and packing them up ready to be dropped off at the Loaves and Fishes. The way parishes and groups have been doing this has helped us to become more stream lined and reduces the time it takes. We had great sorting volunteers and this time we managed things in record time and we hope you come back again.
