Take children and families – mix well with creativity, celebration, hospitality, fun, friendship, and food and what do you get – Messy Church. Families from our Parish, our Early Childhood Centre and our outreach group, Music for Munchkins came.
We started with lots of different crafts to do – cookie decorating, flower pencil tops, book mark colouring and playdoh, and sponge shape painting for the younger ones. Everyone had a go from toddlers to grandparents. Then it was on to the celebration part up in the church by processing with instruments, where songs were sung, bible stories were told, and prayers said.
Back down to the hall for a yummy evening meal – the children all sat together – their conversations were wonderful – so excited about what they had been doing and seeing. And, if you ate all your dinner you got an ice cream cone for dessert!
If success is measured by comments then Messy Church was a success – one two year old saying afterwards ‘I really liked that and the food too’, a four year old asking if she could live at church because it was such fun, and Dads enjoying it so much they can’t wait for the next one.
Yes we will be doing it again, the first Sunday of the month at 4.00pm. We all had a ball and the kids did too.
