Bishop Justin and the Nominations team of the Parish of Avalon are pleased to announce the appointment of Reverend Andrew Barlow as Vicar in the parish. Andrew writes:
“I am looking forward to my new role serving as Vicar in the Parish of Holy Trinity Avalon, commencing 1 February 2016. This means a return home for me after living in Dunedin for the past nine years. Originally our family moved south for me to continue in student ministry with Tertiary Students Christian Fellowship (TSCF). Since then I have completed a year of study at the University of Otago College of Education, have taught Mathematics for five years at a State High School, and have served a curacy in the Parish of St John the Evangelist Roslyn, following my ordination as priest in November 2013.
I was ordained as a deacon within the Diocese of Wellington and served as a Deacon Assistant in the Parish of Waiwhetu. I am excited to be returning to minister as a priest under +Justin. It will also be fun working within a cluster that includes the Naenae parish.
I am married to Lisa and we have two children, Tessa (16) and Dominic (12). Lisa will be studying towards a Masters of Chaplaincy this year, having recently completed her Bachelor of Theology and having worked in the Dunedin Hospice as a Spiritual Care Co-ordinator. Lisa will strengthen my ministry in Avalon through her friendly and outgoing personality and ministry of hospitality. She will also make sure that I don’t overwork in the role!
Bishop Justin will install me as Vicar at Holy Trinity Avalon on Wednesday 27 January at 7.00pm. You are most welcome to attend. Clergy are invited to robe in alb and red stole.
