Christmas in Whanganui

Christmas in Whanganui

Christmas came early in Whanganui with the city wide Ecumenical Bible Friends presenting “Winner takes all”.  A locally written and produced Christmas play focusing on a game show theme.

This group are supported by the city wide churches and is a gathering where people with intellectual and physical disability gather to learn more about Jesus and the impact being a Christian can have on their lives.

The Christ Church venue was packed with family and friends as we enjoyed the play and the carol singing was lovely, all the old favourites with a few new ones thrown in for good measure.  Christine Goodin had a significant role to play with a brief cameo by Archdeacon Stuart Goodin.  Jenni Bristol (dressed as an elf) gave her testimony which I would like to share with you.

“I first started coming to Bible Friends because someone told me about it.  I really enjoyed the friendships I have there.  We all work together as a team, we take turns bringing supper and doing dishes.  I have learned more about God through coming to Bible friends and I feel that my faith is growing stronger.  Sometimes I pray at night and sometimes I find myself singing the songs we learn.  I also really enjoy practicing and being part of our Christmas plays.  I hope you have enjoyed our play tonight, because I have enjoyed being part of it!”

I was struck by the great example of a discipling community where people are invited in to share in the story of Jesus and lives are impacted in such a positive way.  Great work Bible Friends!
