Public lecture on refugees
The Well in Welcome
On Thursday 5 December 2019 from 5:30 till 7 p.m at Victoria University Law School, Government Building Lecture Theatre 1 (55 Lambton Quay), Professor Alison Phipps will be giving a public lecture. The lecture examines the worldwide Refugees Welcome movement in the context of creating a flourishing, inclusive society founded on principles of well-being. Using poetry, image and music, this lecture will consider how wellness is made within the precarious contexts of flight, the fraught spaces of arrival and integration, and in the philosophies of societies.
Professor Alison Phipps is the UNESCO Chair in Refugee Integration through Languages and the Arts at the University of Glasgow, Scotland. She is the University of Otago’s 2019 De Carle Distinguished Lecturer.
