The Reverend Canon Gon Loong, previously Missioner of the Wellington Anglican Chinese Mission, passed away on Sunday, July 21st.

Having served in as vicar in several parishes in the Hong Kong Diocese, Rev Loong was appointed as the Missioner of the Wellington Chinese Anglican Mission in 1970. He was active in the Chinese Community in Wellington with Chinese cultural activities, as means for the Chinese community to engage with the Chinese Mission. These cultural activities undertaken through the Anglican Chinese Centre included Lion Dance, traditional Chinese Dance, and Chinese ( Language) School . He worked with the Chinese Community to fund-raise and build the Chinese style Chinese Mission building at 30 Glenmore Street, Wellington, which was dedicated in August 1979.  The Chinese Mission is still at this location.

He served faithfully at the Chinese Mission until his retirement in March 1988 and afterward volunteered his time to assist with Chinese language church services during interregnum periods.

Canon Loong is survived by his wife Luen Mei and their two children John and Paul, and their families.

We at Anglican Chinese Mission convey our deepest condolences to Rev. Canon Gon Loong’s family. Truly, this scripture has express our love for the good and faithful servant.

2 Timothy 4: 6 For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure is at hand. 7 I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. 8 Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.

Well done good and faithful servant – may he rest in peace and rise in glory.
