Reverend Katie Lawrence, Wellington Cathedral of St Paul

Reverend Katie Lawrence, Wellington Cathedral of St Paul

With great pleasure we announce that the Reverend Katie Lawrence has been appointed as the next Canon Precentor at the Wellington Cathedral of St Paul.

Katie is currently a curate at Winchester Cathedral in the United Kingdom.  During her three years at Winchester, Katie has been responsible for reaching out to communities around the Cathedral.  Amongst other initiatives, she led the formation of the Close Pastors (a team of people who extend the Cathedral’s ministry of hospitality and outreach in the Cathedral grounds) and organised a Cathedral service involving the homeless and the agencies that support them.  She has a deep understanding of traditional and contemporary Cathedral worship and currently undertakes some of the liturgical tasks of the Canon Precentor (as that role is currently vacant at Winchester).

Katie is an expert in liturgical dance and has experience with chaplaincy in church schools.  She is a pastoral person and someone who brings grace and theological depth to celebrating, preaching and leading worship.

Prior to her ordination in 2016, Katie performed professionally, choreographed and taught dance nationally and internationally for 20 years.  This included working as an Animateur for Rambert Dance Company.

Katie is married to Matthew, a visual artist.  They have three children Poppy (13), Josiah (11) and Solomon (9).  We are hopeful that Katie will be able to start work with us in September.
