Free fruit trees seek available church land to put down roots

Planting trees in Wellington City is now a bit easier – and more delicious.  Churches are now able to apply to be part of the Fruit Tree Guardians programme, delivered by the Sustainability Trust in conjunction with Wellington City Council.  The programme sees free fruit trees given to “guardians” who have a good spot of shared land for a fruit tree.  Guardians are also trained to care for the trees, and once they bear fruit, the fruit is then available to people in the local community.

Applications for the programme close soon – on the 17th of May.  Applicants need to be within the Wellington City territorial area.  For all the information about the programme and the application process, click here.
