Reverend Ted Dashfield passed away on the night of 24 April in Wairarapa Hospital.
Apart from two years, where Ted was assistant Curate at St Chad’s Cannock in the Diocese of Lichfield, Ted’s ordained ministry has been in the Wairarapa.
Ted was Deaconed in 1951 and Priested the following year. Was Curate Assistant 1951-55 at St Matthews, Curate Assistant St Chad’s Cannock Diocese of Lichfield 1955-57, Vicar Tainui 1957 – 1964, Vicar Carterton 1964 -1969, Priest Assistant St Matthews 1969 – 1983 while holding the position of Head Master at St Matthews Collegiate 1969 – 1980. Priest in Charge of Tinui 1983 – 1988 and an Officiating Priest from 1988 – until his death.
Ted began his ordained ministry at St Matthews Masterton at the age of twenty five and it seems fitting that he ended his ministry among the people of St Matthews at the ripe old age of ninety two.
Right up until last week Ted had an active leadership role in ministry among the Evensong Choir and congregation.
Ted was well loved and respected, a wise, humble and Christ like servant leader. He will be greatly missed.
Ted’s funeral service wll be held at St Matthew’s Church, Church Street, Masterton at 2pm on Tuesday 30th April.
Clergy attending are invited to rode: Alb and White Stole. The Library in the Church will be made available as the robing room.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Ted’s family.
Rest eternal grant unto him, O Lord: and let light perpetual shine upon him.
