For nearly two years, our diocese has supported the campaign for a Zero Carbon Act, a proposed law that would keep New Zealand on track to reducing carbon emissions to net zero by 2050. Last year many in our Diocese had their say on how that law should look – see some of the photos from the event.
The new proposed law was due to be introduced to Parliament last October, but negotiations between parties have delayed progress.
Last Tuesday, Anglicans from at least ten parishes gathered among hundreds of other supporters outside Parliament – see the photo album here. The purpose was to demonstrate the extent of public support for the bill, and to ask the Climate Change Minister to commit to a timeframe. The demonstration was effective – the Minister committed to providing the timeframe of the bill within three weeks.
