The Reverend Canon Simon Winn has advised Bishop Justin and Bishop Eleanor of his intention to resign from his position as Canon Precentor at the Wellington Cathedral of St Paul at the end of April. Simon and his wife Lizzi will be moving back to the UK to look for new opportunities there.
Simon came to the Diocese in September 2010 after being appointed as Vicar in the Parish of Hataitai-Kilbirnie. During his time in Hataitai, Simon was Coordinator of the Kilbirnie Ministers Association, was involved in setting up the Eastern Suburbs Anglican youth ministry hub, and worked closely with Reverend Larry Ashmore as they brought the Parishes of Lyall Bay and Hataitai-Kilbirnie together, and began to integrate their life and worship. In April 2015, Simon was appointed Canon Precentor at the Cathedral.
Simon has had many other roles within the life of the Diocese during his time here. He was a member of the Diocesan Ministry Group from 2010 to 2013, and was Diocesan Director of Ordinands from 2013 to 2018. Simon was also an elected member of General Synod for the 2014 and 2016 General Synods, and has been a member of the Bishops’ Motion 7 Working Group. Simon also served as Interim Chaplain at St Mark’s Church School during 2013, and then Co-Chaplain with other clergy from the Cathedral from 2016 to the present time. He has also been a workshop leader at Diocesan Training Days and at New Wine Conferences. Simon trained as a Spiritual Director with Spiritual Growth Ministries here in NZ.
We wish Simon and Lizzi all the best in their next season of ministry.
