The Anglican Missioner is a newly created role that will work alongside the Christchurch City Missioner. Jointly they will lead Anglican Care, one of the largest faith-based and non-Government providers of social services in Canterbury, Westland and the Chatham Islands. Best known for the exceptional work of the City Mission, Anglican Care also provides community development and advocacy services.
Anglican Care is embarking on a major strategic and organisational renewal to meet future needs and challenges, and to ensure it continues to provide a voice for those without voice. A new organisational structure (management and governance) is being introduced, and new partnerships formed with central and local Government agencies, NGOs and the private sector.
Together with the City Missioner, the Anglican Missioner will be responsible for developing and implementing the new direction. He/she will focus specifically on growing the impact of Anglican Care through new partnerships, new business models including social enterprise, and building Anglican Care as a credible voice in the community. Reporting directly to the Board, the Missioners will be expected to grow the impact, reputation and income of Anglican Care significantly over the next two to four years.
The Anglican Missioner will demonstrate a strong and open Christian faith and will be comfortable engaging with church leaders and parishes, as well as being seen as a mentor and role model. The Anglican Missioner will also be a public figurehead; experienced in engaging with a wide range of stakeholders, advocating on behalf of the vulnerable and engaging with media.
